Podcasting

Podcasts are media files that form one big series. It is similar to the way that informatin is shared over television of the radio. The author of the podcast will record themself then share the podcast. When they have been posted online or shared, they are accessible by their audience at any time. This is very convenient unlike television and the radio. People use podcasting to express their thoughts or emotions on a topic. When these people share their podcasts, they normally intend to share them in a series over time. Using a podcast to share information instead of just writing it is very helpful because you can show your emotions through podcast and people can see how you truly feel about a topic.

The Web 2.0 tools that we have discussed previous to this lesson seemed to focus more on communicating through writing. This is the first tool we have discussed that involves audio through media. I think that this tool is possibly one of the most useful ones because of this. Audio grabs attention because it normally allows you to involve emotion with what you’re saying. This tool is similar to some of the other tools we have discussed because you are able to give your thoughts on a topic and then share it with the public or whoever you choose to share it with. This tool is very helpful and I hope that people will take the time to make use of it.

In today’s world, almost everyone owns a phone or and MP3 player. I own an iPhone, which could also be used as an iPod. I use the iPod part of my phone to listen to music and listen to podcast. It is kind of more of a recreational part of my phone than anything else to me. In the classroom, you could use the iPod to share podcast. Honestly, it could even be used to play music. Music always helped me when a teacher played it in the classroom because it soothes me and creates a comfort zone in the classroom. Online communication tools are very helpful because it makes communication effortless and it is very easy to access. The only problem with it is that you normally won’t know the authors true emotions about their opinion through writing. This is why the podcasts are very helpful and useful in doing that.

  1. I totally agree, I have an IPhone and I use my IPhone to listen to music and podcast not so much on my Ipod, because I always leave it in my car because my car is Ipod/Droid integrated. But I definitely agree with everything and like what you put on your blog about podcasting and totally learned some new stuff that I didn't know!

  2. I have used podcast for courses that are rich in vocabulary. It can be hard to understand a person face to face or through writting sometimes and podcasting can help by supplementing what you already know. I agree that smart phones make it really easy to access this type of media and be played as many times as you can.
